Mission of the Journal
The Yale Socially Responsible Investments Journal is an undergraduate student organization at Yale University devoted to reporting news, developments, and analysis in social finance and entrepreneurship across Finance, Technology, Healthcare, and Energy. The journal is a mainstream publication on the Yale campus with an emphasis upon strengthening the social fabric of communities and forging new strategies to ensure that the economic practices of today guarantee a wholesome and promising future for posterity. In addition to regular publications in print and online, the members of the editorial staff of the Yale Socially Responsible Investments Journal manage an investment fund for the purpose of implementing the vision of the journal in greater society, making investments in causes which foster community development and social justice.
Editor-in-Chief: Brian Cashin
Brian is a junior at Yale who is pursuing a double major in computer science and economics. This semester, Brian is serving as the President of the Yale Political Union. He is a violinist in the choir of the St. Thomas More Chapel and Catholic Center, and he performs violin at the Yale School of Management for executive events and, on occasion, at the Yale Club of New York City. Brian is a Software Engineer for the Yale Information Technology Services Student and Academic Support Systems Technology and Development Team, a Yale admissions and engineering tour guide, a Yale Libraries worker, and Team Captain of the Yale-Ezra Stiles Cross Country Intramural Team. Currently, Brian is studying nightly as he continues the process of winning a spot as a contestant on the television show Jeopardy!.
Healthcare Editor: Oscar Perales
Oscar is a junior in Ezra Stiles College pursuing a degree in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology. After Yale, Oscar plans to continue his education in the public health sector and to eventually matriculate in medical school. He volunteers with several health-related service organizations on campus like the HAVEN Free Clinic and the Hypertension Awareness and Prevention Program at Yale (HAPPY) while also conducting research in the MCDB department. If you are trying to find him, but just can’t get a hold of where he is, go to the botanical gardens or to the nearest jogging trail. His hobbies include gardening and running.
News Editor: Christopher Sung
Christopher is a first year student in the Grace Hopper Residential College of Yale University. Planning to major in both Political Science and History, Christopher is interested in the intersection of history—namely, political history—and current events. Beyond the Journal, Christopher is currently a member of the Yale Political Union and a contributing reporter to the Yale Daily News. After Yale, Christopher hopes to matriculate in law school.
Technology Editor: Omeed Ziari
Omeed is a junior in Silliman College studying computer science. He is fascinated by the intersection of technology and business — particularly big data, Internet of Things, and start-up culture. Beyond the YSRIJ, Omeed is also a member of the Yale Political Union and Silliman student government. He is renowned for his ability to bake Rachel Ray’s “thirty minute cupcakes” in only twenty-five.
